Shutdown Your Computer or a Remote PC via Command Prompt !!!!!!!!!!

Most of us shutdown our computers using the power button given in the Start menu. Some of us use the physical power button on our machines. Very few people actually use other means of shutting down a computer and even less is the number of people who use the command prompt to shutdown a computer.

A reason for this is that most of us don't know that the command prompt can be used to not only shutdown, restart or log off our computer instantly but also to shutdown a remote computer provided you have administrative access. It can also be used to hibernate a computer and give a comment containing the reason for shutdown. This post will show you how to do all this.

Required:

A computer running Windows (XP, Vista, 7 or 8) with the command prompt working perfectly, i.e. not disabled by a virus.

Initial Steps :

1) Press Windows Key + R.
2) Enter CMD and press Enter.

This will start the command prompt. Follow the instructions below depending on what you want to do.

Shutdown Local Machine (Your Computer) :

Type "shutdown -s" without the quotes in the command prompt and press Enter. Shutdown is the command being executed and the switch -s tells the computer to shutdown.

Restart your Local Computer :
Type "shutdown -r" in the command prompt and press Enter. In this case, the command switch -r is telling the computer to restart after shutdown.

Log Off the Current User :

Type "shutdown -l" in the command prompt and press Enter. The -l command switch tells the computer to log off.

Shutdown a Remote Computer:

Type "shutdown -s -m \\name of the computer" in the command prompt and press Enter. Replace \\name of the computer with the actual name of the remote computer you are trying to shutdown. As mentioned earlier, you must have administrative access to the computer you are trying to shutdown. To know if you have administrative access, press Windows key + R and then type the name of the computer and press Enter.

Note: If you don't remember the name of the remote computer, you can look for it by opening a list of all the computers you are connected to by executing "net view" in command prompt.

If you can connect to the computer, you will be asked to login with your username and password. Upon entering them, a window will display the list of all the directories available to you. This should help you know whether you can or cannot shutdown the remote computer.

Hibernate a Local Computer :

Type in "Rundll32.exe Powrprof.dll,SetSuspendState" without the quotes and press Enter. Your computer should hibernate, if it does not, then you must enable hibernation to do this.

Shutdown your or a remote computer after a specific time :

Type "shutdown -s -t 60" to shutdown your computer after 60 seconds. Upon executing this, a countdown timer displaying a warning message will be shown. This command uses the -t command switch followed by a variable (which is 60 in this case) which represents the number of seconds after which the computer will shutdown.

Display a Message containing the reason for shutdown :

Type shutdown -s  -t 500 -c "I am tired. I don't want to work anymore." (with the quotes) in the Command Prompt and press Enter. The -c switch is used in the code to give the reason for shutting down and what is followed in quotes will be displayed in the dialog box as the reason. This can be used to display all sorts of funny messages. One example :-

Skynet has become self aware. John Connor did not stop me. You can not use your PC anymore.

Stop a System Shutdown :

Type "shutdown -a" and press Enter. This will stop the system from shutting down if the countdown to shut down has not reached 0.

Hope u like it......... :)

Watch ASCII Star Wars in Windows XP, Vista, 7 and 8 !!!!!!!!!!!!

Every one of us has watched Star Wars on television, computer or in a theater. It is the same movie with aliens fighting each other for galaxies and such stuff. There is nothing new in it. But wait, have you watched an ASCII (American Standard Code for Information Interchange) version of Star Wars and that too in Windows using telnet? A network protocol known only to computer wizards. Well if you have not, then you must do it now!

There is a complete copy of Star Wars done entirely in ASCII characters that you can watch in the Windows operating system (or any OS that supports telnet). The only thing required to watch it is an internet connection; speed does not matter.

To watch it on Windows XP, Mac OS X and Linux

1.Go to Start, Run. (Only for Windows users)
2.Now type "telnet towel.blinkenlights.nl" without the quotes and press Enter. Users of Mac OS X and Linux can directly execute this code in the terminal window.

On Windows 8, Windows 7 and Windows Vista

Telnet is turned off by default in the latest versions of Windows. So, in order to watch star wars, you must first enable telnet by going to Control Panel › Programs › Turn Windows Feature On or Off and ticking both the telnet check boxes. After doing that, follow the steps given below:-
1.Go to Start, Search in Windows Vista and Windows 7. On Windows 8, open the main Start page.
2.Type telnet and press Enter.

3.In the following command prompt window, type "o" without quotes and press Enter.

4.Now type "towel.blinkenlights.nl" without the quotes and press Enter.

If you do not need telnet anymore, you can turn it off.

A command prompt window like the one in the image will open with the movie being played in it. See the movie yourself. Did you enjoy watching this new version of Star Wars? Well, I did and know it for sure that you would have too.

Hope u njoy ........ :)

How to Block Ads in Google Chrome Firefox or in any Browser ????

Internet has become a major part of our lives. We send emails, we download music, movies etc, we book tickets and what not? everything has become easy with the internet and almost everything is absolutely perfect with internet except for some of the issues like unnecessary and irritating ads in the web browsers. We open a website and boom! A meaningless and completely irritating ad appears on the screen and diverts your attention. Is not there any way to block these ads? Yes there is a solution for this problem.

For any web browser, there are a few simple steps to follow and yes you can block all the annoying ads!
Here, I will be showing it on Google chrome, which is also applicable for other web browsers too. There is an awesome web application, Ad Block or Ad Block Plus which can be installed on your web browser, that is Google chrome for example, in the Google web store.
Open the Google web store and search for Ad Block Here.( You can also use AdBlock Plus)

Click on the free installation.
After successful installation, you will get a message on the screen, that Ad block has been added to your web browser.

Now you can see the Ad block icon on your screen. click on it. The settings page will open.Click on the General button and make sure you select the "Add items to the right click menu" option.

Now move on to the filter lists and click on it.  Here you can subscribe to the filter lists, which automatically blocks the ads without asking you. This makes your work easy. Click on update now. This updates the filter lists in periodic time intervals. Make sure you select all the options carefully. In the custom Filter lists category, you can add URL's of the websites which you visit often. You shall not be seeing any ads on the websites again.

I have just tried it and entered the URL link of Facebook. And when i checked my Facebook web page, there are no ads on it.

Now select the Customize button. This is mostly for advanced users,  Where you are given a choice to block the ad by its url and hide a section of a webpage.

Now that you have installed the Ad Block, you can go to any website and right click on the screen. You will see the Ad Block option and you can place it on any ad you see and boom! You can shoot it out with no efforts.
This is available in Mozilla firefox, opera,Android phones as AdBlockPlus

Why is bluetooth called BLUETOOTH ?????

When two devices need to talk to each other, they
need to have a handshake on various parameters
before the conversation starts. The first agreement
is on the medium – will they use wires, or talk over
some wireless signal? Bluetooth is one such wireless signal (protocol)
over which two (or more) devices communicate
over.

Strange name though isn’t it – are the bluetooth
waves invisible but blue and shaped like teeth?
Wrong! There is absolutely no relation between the name
and the meaning.

The Bluetooth protocol was created by Ericsson
(pre-Sony Ericsson) which is a major Swedish
telecommunication company. They named it after
the Danish viking king, Harald Blåtand. As legend goes, Blåtandhad
the blessed ability to bring people negotiate with each other, and
cometo talking terms. So skilled was he, that he was able to unite Denmark
and Norway together! The literal translation of Blåtand means blue-tooth, hence
the name Bluetooth for the protocol. It does precisely what Blåtand did – lets
two wireless device to communicate with each
other!

The Bluetooth symbol has HaraldBlåtand’sinitials inscribed into it (in Runic).
The two lines stickingout of the back of the B
actually represent a Runic H – thats
H for Harald .The B for Bluetooth also stands for

Add Background Images to Folders in Windows !!!!!!!!!!

Suppose you have a music folder that contains all songs by your favorite singer. Would it not be great if instead of the plain white background, you could add the singer's image as the background of this folder?

It is relatively easy to add background images to folders using a simple desktop.ini trick just as easily as you can change your Desktop's background.

Desktop.ini is a system file that is used to customize the appearance and behavior of folders in Windows. We can use this ability of desktop.ini files to add backgrounds to folders just by adding a few lines of code.

Steps for adding backgrounds to Folders
1.Open Notepad.
2.Copy and paste the following code:-

[{BE098140-A513-11D0-A3A4-00C04FD706EC}] iconarea_image="location of the image"

3.You need to slightly modify this code on Windows Vista and Windows 7 as the ability to add folder backgrounds has been removed. So, if you use these versions of Windows, install AveFolder and then, replace [{BE098140-A513-11D0-A3A4-00C04FD706EC}] with [AveFolder] in the above code. To install this app, extract all the files and then, open the folder according to your installation of Windows (32 bit or 64 bit), right click install.bat and select Run as Administrator.
4.In this code, iconarea_image is the parameter where the location of your image will go.
5.Save the file as desktop.ini.
6.Place this file in the folder where you want your personalized background.
7.On Windows XP, you need to add system attribute to the folder where you want a background. To do this, open command prompt and execute "attrib +s D:\Music" (without quotes) if "D:\Music" is the location of your folder. If there are spaces in the location of your folder, you need to add double quotes around it. Windows Vista and 7 users need not add system attribute to folders.
8.You might need to log off and log back on for the changes to take effect. Sometimes, AveFolder app fails to work in which case you need to restart Windows Explorer. I recommend you to create a System Restore point in case you do not like the results.

You can hide this desktop.ini file if you feel that it is something that should not be visible in your folder.

Tip: I am using this trick to have a personal picture as the background of the root folder of my flash drive. So, whenever I connect it to my Windows PC, the picture is displayed as the background. You can also do this but you should have the image in the drive itself. As you cannot assign a static location to the iconarea_image parameter (as the drive could be G:/ on one computer while F:/ on the other), you need to add the image's dynamic location. To do this, add "/{location of the image in flash drive}" as the value of iconarea_image. For example, if your image is located in the Pics folder in the flash drive, you need to have this value as:-

iconarea_image=/Pics/Image.jpg

It is important to note that the background to your flash drive will only be displayed on computers running Windows XP (if you have used the code for XP) or those computers running Windows 7 and Windows Vista that have AveFolder installed. Sadly, there is no way to make the background of your flash drive visible on all computers unless you modify your flash drive to automatically install this app on every PC you plug it in.

If this trick does not work for you, do add a comment.
